The Pilot of Mumbles has been named Swansea Camra’s Pub of the Year 2026, the third time the honour has been awarded to the pub since landlords Richard and Jo Bennett took over in 2012.
The historic inn, which was part of the famous Mumbles Mile, was also awarded Pub of the Year in 2014 and 2018.
Stewart Pinching, Swansea Campaign for Real Ale chairman, said the pub had won because of the wide range of real ales it serves and their consistent quality, all served up in a traditional community pub that extends a warm welcome to visitors too.
Richard brews several of the beers himself at the Pilot Brewery on the premises. He said: “We’ve got seven beers on hand pump, plus one real cider. People come here because we offer a good choice – there’s something for everyone. I drink beer myself, so I know how to keep it!”
The traditional pub has no slot machines, no music and the only time the television goes on is for Six Nations matches.
“We’re delighted to get the award and we’d like to thank all our customers,” said Jo. “Beer is at the heart of what we do, but we also serve wine, real cider and tea and coffee and dogs are welcome too.”
Add to that a real fire and newspapers to read and you have got a pub goer’s heaven.
The Pilot is open 12noon to 11pm every day. Owing to its compact size, large groups can’t be accommodated.
